The under-1-year-old period

1.    Do not let children drink juice (unless they have constipation)

Juice has too many calories and a great and unnecessary amount of sugar for children. Breast milk, formula milk and water (to children under 4 years old at least) are all the liquids they need.

2.    Foods that children under 1 year old should avoid

Description: Children who are under 1 year old shouldn’t eat honey.

Those foods include honey (the risk of infections), citrus fruits, strawberries, egg white, butter, peanut, fish and shellfish (the risk of allergies), whole-cream milk or bottled skim milk (due to the inappropriate nutrient contents).

3.    The sensible time to start weaning is the 6th month

Do not let children eat earlier as their digestive systems are still weak and developing. If children wean milk too early, it not only affects their digestive systems, but also increases the chance of indigestion in children and makes children afraid to eat. Also, the weaning shouldn’t start too late as the nutrient content in milk can meet children’s need of nutrients and energies. Otherwise, children will have rickets, anemia, malnutrition or weak immunity.    

Do not make children wean milk too early.
