Actor Paul Walker died in November 2013 in a car crash in Valencia, California.

His close friend and Fast & Furious castmate, Vin Diesel, says that watching the actor in Fast & Furious 7, his final movie, is especially painful.

"I couldn't stop crying. The thing about Fast 7 is, you don't just cry after watching it. When you think about it later, you cry again," he says.

Members of the core cast are tight-knit, the bond between Diesel and Walker especially so.

Diesel talks about how, once, he and his mother were not seeing eye to eye on how much financial help he should be giving his relations.

His mother felt that her son should render help when asked. Diesel felt exploited.

Like him, Walker had come from modest beginnings. He could empathise with the emotional turmoil his friend was feeling.

Diesel says: "I asked him to come over to the house and then I asked him, 'Go talk to my mother.'"

Walker, after a chat with Diesel's mother, "made my mother understand how I felt".

The 40-year-old, blue-eyed heart- throb was the passenger in a Porsche owned and driven by a friend, Roger Rodas, when it hit a concrete lamp post and burst into flames. The car was said to have been travelling much faster than the allowed speed limit for that stretch of road.

Even though most of Walker's scenes had been shot for the latest instalment of the Fast & Furious franchise, the studio weighed the option of shutting down production, but decided to carry on with the help of computer graphics and stand-ins from Walker's younger brothers, Caleb and Cody.

With the help of director James Wan, the ending of the story was revised to ease Walker's character of Brian O'Conner out of the saga in a sensitive way, says Diesel.

He adds that the Malaysian-born Wan (Insidious, 2010), in taking the reins from previous director Justin Lin, found that Lin had in past movies prepared the groundwork for Brian's exit from the story.

Cop-turned-vagabond racer and thief Brian feels guilty for not being there for his children with Mia (Jordana Brewster) and in Fast 7, decides that his family comes first.

Diesel says: "Family is the most important thing in life. What better heaven for Brian O'Conner to go off to than commit to his own family?"
