Two media personalities apologised to former American Idol champion and new mother Kelly Clarkson for joking about her weight.

Last Friday on The Mike Gallagher Show, radio host Gallagher had said: "Have you seen Kelly Clarkson?... Holy cow, did she blow up."

Fox anchor Chris Wallace replied that Clarkson has "a lovely voice", but added: "She could stay off the deep-dish pizza for a little while."

Following a backlash about those comments, Wallace said in a statement on Sunday: "I sincerely apologise to Kelly Clarkson for my offensive comment. I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her."

Gallagher wrote online: "Tubby Mike is the last person in the world who should bring up anyone's weight. I couldn't possibly feel any worse than I do for making an observation that led to the conclusion that I 'fat-shamed' this talented and classy entertainer. It was a really stupid thing for me to do."

Last month, British television personality Katie Hopkins joked that Clarkson, 32, whose daughter with music manager husband Brandon Blackstock was born last June, looked like she had eaten her back-up dancers.

But the American singer has shrugged off the criticism. She told Ellen DeGeneres on her show last week: "Sometimes we're more fit. Like especially me, I'm such a creative person that I yo-yo. So sometimes I'm more fit and I get into kick-boxing hardcore. And then sometimes I don't and I'm like... I'd rather have wine."
