Freddie Prinze Jr has slammed fellow actor Kiefer Sutherland as he revealed why he has fallen off Hollywood's radar.

Prinze, who did a 2010 guest stint on the counterterrorism series 24, told ABC News last weekend that working with Sutherland was so horrid that he did not feel like acting anymore.

"I did 24, it was terrible. I hated every moment of it," he said. "Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world.

"That's not me talking trash, I'd say it to his face, I think everyone that's worked with him has said that.

"I just wanted to quit the business after that. So I just sort of stopped."

The 38-year-old was once a promising star of teen movies including She's All That (1999) and I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). He made the comments at Comic-Con, where he was plugging the animated TV show Star Wars Rebels, for which he has done voice work.

After 24, Prinze said he worked for Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment chairman Vince McMahon, writing or appearing with McMahon on some wrestling series.

The actor said "it was a crazier job than working with Kiefer" but added, referring to McMahon: "At least he was cool and tall."

He said he did not have to take his shoes off for his scenes with McMahon, unlike when he worked with Sutherland.

"Just put the guy on an apple box or don't hire me next time. You know I'm 6 feet and he's 5'4," Prinze said.

Sutherland, who was also at the convention to publicise the return of 24 in a limited 12-episode run, responded to Prinze's comments via his representative.

"Kiefer worked with Freddie Prinze Jr more than five years ago and this is the first he has heard of Freddie's grievances," the spokesman told Fox News on Monday.

"Kiefer enjoyed working with Freddie and wishes him the best."
