The dollars and cents in the running feud between Taylor Swift and Spotify just would not match up.

Swift's label on Wednesday revealed that the singer has been paid US$496,044 (S$640,303) in the past 12 months for United States streams of her songs on the music streaming service.

Big Machine chief executive Scott Borchetta told this to Time magazine.

In comparison, Spotify chief executive Daniel Ek had said on Tuesday that payouts for a top star like Swift were "on track" to exceed US$6 million in the next year, as its subscriber base grows.

Their comments came after Swift, 24, last week pulled her latest album 1989 and entire catalogue from Spotify. She had been open about streaming and piracy as reasons for the decline of album sales.

Borchetta told Time that the actual amount the independent label had received for US streams of Swift's music was smaller than the amount Spotify had suggested, and only a portion of that sum was paid by the music portal.

He said the label had made more from putting Swift's videos on video site Vevo than from placing her music on Spotify.

But a spokesman for Spotify told Time a different story. He said the total payout for global streams of Swift's songs in the past year was US$2 million.

He said Spotify had paid Taylor's label and publisher about US$500,000 in the month before she pulled her catalogue from the outlet.
